It gives me immense pleasure to welcome you to the official website of the Forensic Science Laboratory, Delhi – one of the Premier Forensic Institutions in the Country working under the aegis of Home Department, Govt. of NCT of Delhi.
With the enactment of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 and Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, forensic science has moved from the periphery to the very “core pillar” of criminal investigation amid the Law Enforcement Agencies. The New Nyaya Sanhitas emphasize the importance of digital forensics in modern criminal investigations, and Section 176 (3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) mandates the collection of evidence from the scene of crime in offences punishable with imprisonment of more than seven years. The new legal framework under New Nyaya Sanhitas reflects a transition from a punishment-centric criminal justice approach to a more citizen-centric system that prioritizes fairness, scientific evidence, and protection of individual rights.
FSL Delhi remains committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity, objectivity, and excellence. Our scientists across Biology, Chemistry, Ballistics, Cyber Forensics, Physics, and Crime Scene Management work round the clock to ensure that truth is established through science. We are augmenting our capacity, modernizing infrastructure, and training stakeholders to meet the mandates of the new criminal laws.
